I Care About Me

Feelings of inadequacy caught in the dark
Bewildered of character checking the light
Feeling in the dark trying to do right
Rest comes hard like demon at bedside
Waiting to steal joy if you murmur a sound
Hoping and praying God is still around

Shadows of doubt we breathe in daily, asking myself-” do I care about me?”
Focus on something stronger than self comforting noise as in silence
Wondering where [to] be if I could even begin

Focus on something stronger than self
Comforting speed as I regain wealth
It’s your concern- “am I doing this right?”
Your answer comes quiet like a thief in the night

Focus is key. If you lose, “you’re done”
Feelings I just started this race is all but won
“I CARE ABOUT ME!” I scream to an unknown
Quiet as I don’t know how I got grown

Heart palpitates voice stuck in your chest
Realizations around you like rain
Focus is key; don’t give up now
This is hard work wiping sweat from my brow

The word is survival. I’ve accomplished that goal
We remember our task not falling in the hole.
I care about me- I must watch my step
I remember I cannot save my face, my butt or my rep

Long story short- I care about me
It’s the closest aspect I can have so let comfort be
Patience, love, tolerance and respect is all that I have to give
I reach out to the world and say “I want to live” … cause I CARE ABOUT ME!
